Belize Tax Services to crackdown on grocery stores still charging tax on women’s sanitary products

Posted: Thursday, May 18, 2023. 1:26 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Last month, Prime Minister John Briceño signed the Statutory Instrument removing taxes from sanitary products.

During cabinet’s session this week, cabinet requested that the Financial Secretary instruct the Belize Tax Services Limited to check into businesses that continue to charge tax on feminine products.

The Government of Belize reminds that these products became GST-exempt effective 1st April with a grace period of one month for products that were already in stock to be depleted.

Belize is the second country in the region to eliminate taxes on women’s sanitary products.
