European Union in Belize to host inaugural “EU in the Park” Festival on Saturday, May 20th

Posted: Thursday, May 18, 2023. 3:43 am CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The European Union in Belize will be hosting its first-ever ‘EU in the Park’ on Saturday, May 20th at the Belize City Digi Park. This festival-style event will run from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and is free for all attendees.

The festival promises a day filled with fun and educational activities, aiming to highlight the partnership between Belize and the European Union. A diverse range of activities, performances, and games will be on offer for both children and adults, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere.

Attendees can look forward to dance and art classes, face painting, and yoga sessions. There will also be numerous educational initiatives focusing on themes such as conservation, recycling, health, and renewable energy — all areas of emphasis for the EU in Belize. Information on scholarship opportunities to study in Europe will be available, with testimonials from Belizean alumni of the EU-funded Erasmus Mundus Masters’ scholarship program.

Garifuna musician and father of Punta Rock music, Pen Cayetano, is set to perform live with his band, alongside other live showcases and a few surprise performances.

Throughout the day, festival-goers will have the chance to learn more about the various countries and cultures that make up the European Union and the partnerships the EU has forged in Belize over the years. The day’s festivities will conclude with a showing of two European films starting at 6:00PM, including a children’s animation and a family-friendly movie.

Another highlight of the festival will be the announcement of the winners of the EU Creative Arts Competition. This competition is a testament to the European Union’s commitment to climate action and aiding Belize in the sustainable use of its natural resources, protecting biodiversity, and fighting deforestation. The contest aims to raise public awareness on these critical issues through cultural expression, creativity, and arts. Prizes will be awarded to first-place winners in visual arts, dance, and song for both junior and senior age groups.

EU in the Park aims to reflect the diversity and inclusivity of the European Union itself, providing an immersive cultural, educational, and enjoyable experience. All residents and visitors to Belize City are warmly invited to partake in this unique celebration of the European Union’s ongoing relationship with Belize.
