Chocolate Festival of Belize off to a good start – check it out this weekend May 19-20 in Toledo

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Chocolate Festival of Belize is in full swing in Southern Belize today Friday and tomorrow Saturday, May 19-20, in Mafredi and Santa Cruz, Toledo, the chocolate capital of Belize.

Activities started on Friday, May 19, at 9:00 am with the Cacao Symposium at the Maya House of Cacao in Mafredi. Then, tonight enjoy the Chocolate Gala at the Copal Tree Lodge 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm.

“Are you ready for the Chocolate Gala? We are excited to welcome you to Copal Tree lodge, 7-11.30pm tomorrow night, Friday 19th May…. we have wine, chocolate, copalli rum, chocolate stout and some delicious finger foods to enjoy! Musical entertainment provided by the ever-popular Justin Castillo and Alexander Evans! A free bus will be leaving PG Central Park at 6.30pm and returning at 9:30/10pm and again at 11:30 pm,” said the organizers of the Chocolate Festival of Belize.

The Chocolate Gala is an elegant evening to indulge in Belize’s finest chocolate for $60.

Then on Saturday, May 20, it’s the Cacao & Culture presentation in Santa Cruz showcasing the Maya Culture.

“The day will be packed with cultural activities featuring the Maya traditional Deer Dance, chocolate demonstrations, local food, archaeological site tours, waterfalls, and more,” said the organizers. This activity starts at 9:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm. 

The final leg is the ‘Celebrate Chocolate’ – a family friendly chocolate themed evening featuring “Toledo’s diverse cultures through music, food, entertainment, local arts and crafts, games, and of course, lots of Belize chocolate”. The final segment runs from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
