The Atlantic Hurricane Season goes through from June to November.
Forecasters are predicting a slightly below average year due in part because of the influence of an expected El Niño, which tends to reduce Atlantic hurricane activity.
A tropical storm is named after sustained winds have reached 39 mph and becomes a hurricane when winds reach 74 mph.
Every year, the World Meteorological Organization selected hurricane names in advance.
However, if a hurricane is particularly deadly or costly, its name is “retired” by the and replaced by another one.
