CXC identifies source of math examination breach; removes Paper 2 from grading consideration

Posted: Saturday, May 20, 2023. 8:54 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Following an investigation by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) into the apparent leak of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Mathematics Paper 02 on the day of the examination on May 17, it will not be part of the final grade for the subject.

In a statement, CXC said it traced the leak to an examination center in Jamaica and it is dealing with that country under CXC security protocols.

In consultation with regional Ministries of Education, CXC has determined that only scores from the Paper 01 (multiple-choice) along with the School-Based Assessment (SBA) or Paper 032 Alternative for private candidates will be considered, allowing for timely release of results for matriculation requirements.

CXC would like to reassure candidates that the security of the regional examinations is paramount, and their best interests continue to be at the centre of the organization’s decisions and processes.

In Belize, mathematics is one of two subjects (English A – Language being the other) that is normally considered in awarding of scholarships to Sixth Form/junior college institutions.
