International News: Montana becomes first U.S. state to ban TikTok on personal devices

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, Governor Greg Gianforte signed a ban into law making Montana the first U.S. state to ban TikTok on personal devices.

According to BBC, the ban becomes effective on January 1.

TikTok has since responded saying that the move “infringes on the First Amendment rights of the people of Montana”.

The app owned by Chinese company Byte dance has come under scrutiny from officials around the globe citing security concerns.

The company said that the app is being used by “hundreds of thousands of people” in Montana.

The company will reportedly challenge the legislation.
