By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-four-year-old Ashton Middleton has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being charged with wounding a woman.
Middleton appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of wounding to which he pleaded guilty with the explanation that a group of women had attacked his girlfriend and he was defending her.
As his explanation amounted to a defense in law, the Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson rejected his guilty plea and entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on his behalf.
While in court, Middleton’s records showed that he was already out on bail for a previous charge of gang affiliation, so he was denied bail in the first instance.
Middleton was remanded to the Belize Central Prison Until June 1, when the court will consider if he will receive bail on the wounding charge.
