Heartbreaking theft hits local family’s cancer fundraiser

Posted: Monday, May 22, 2023. 4:17 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A local resident is today pleading for the return of money that was heartlessly stolen from their home. The money, which was raised during a barbeque sale, was meant to support their ailing mother’s impending chemotherapy treatment.

The family member, who prefers to remain anonymous, reported the theft occurred earlier this morning. An unknown person entered their room and took a large sum from their wallet, leaving behind only $198 in small denominations.

The individual believes the thief must be someone familiar to them, as not all the money was taken. They have chosen not to involve the police, instead issuing a heartfelt plea for the money’s return.

“Whosoever did it please just touch your heart and bring it back to where you found it,” they implored. This sentiment was underscored by the somber reality that the stolen funds were meant for their mother’s chemotherapy treatment.

Expressing frustration and despair, the resident described how they had worked tirelessly on the fundraiser, even forgoing their own birthday celebration, all in an attempt to alleviate their mother’s financial burden.

Despite this disheartening setback, the family member remains steadfast in their determination. “They must be happy that they got away with this. But I’ll continue trying,” they concluded.

This story is a reminder of the struggles many families face when dealing with serious health issues and the importance of community support during these trying times.
