No change in Imari Galvez murder investigation – she was choked to death

Posted: Monday, May 22, 2023. 8:51 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Almost as an aside at the end of today’s short press briefing occurring a week to the date after her death, Police indicated that no arrests have been made or charges laid in the death of Imari Galvez, 19, of Belmopan.

A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation due to strangulation – that she was choked to death. Earlier reports of injury on the body have been ascribed to decomposition.

Several persons have been detained, but as Police Commissioner Chester Williams told LOVE FM on Friday, “At this time, we have not been able to gather sufficient evidence to charge anybody, not only those two individuals – we have other persons in custody. We are looking at all those male figures that may have had close affiliation with her as possible suspects, because certainly, she was murdered by someone who knew her, and knew her well, and someone that she knew well. What took place there, we don’t think was done by a stranger.”

That also means looking at her “sketchy” associations and the Commissioner said he was leaning on the family to tell all that they knew in order to assist.

The Commissioner said initial reports that she had gone to a nightclub on Saturday night were incorrect and that, as family members have said, she was at home all day Saturday until she left after midnight going into Sunday morning. This is now where the investigation is headed and the Commissioner repeated pleas for those who have anything to come forward and help solve the case.
