By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On Sunday evening, the San Pedro Pirates were a totally different team than last Wednesday rolling over Belize City’s Port Layola like a bulldozer smashing them 4-0 in the second leg of the Premier League of Belize semifinals, to turn over the aggregate score from 1-2 to 5-2 aggregate score.
After falling in Belize City on Wednesday, at Ambergris Stadium the Pirates suffered during the first half but were able to turn things around before the end of the first half which finished 2-0 in their favour. Andir Chi hammered in the opener in the 44’ and Luis Valdez converted a penalty kick in the 45”+4.
As play resumed, Valdez struck again in the 50’ and Chi in the 65’ to put Port Layola away 4-0.
That overwhelming victory put them in the PLB Finals against their archrivals Verdes. Just last Sunday, Verdes routed the Pirates 3-0.
However, considering all the animosity between the two this season, expect a high-octane final starting on Wednesday in San Pedro and closing Sunday in San Ignacio, Cayo.
