By Aaron Humes: Leon Lamb, a former member of the Belize Defence Force (BDF), faces a preliminary inquiry on June 9 into a charge of rape for which he is remanded.
Lamb was granted bail on two unrelated sexual assault charges but has been unable to meet bail of $10,000 and a surety on the rape charge.
On appearing unrepresented in court on Monday before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson, he asked to get the bail amount lowered, but the court declined because it is considered a very serious offense.
Lamb faces unrelated charges of sexual assault of a minor for which he was granted bail of $3,000 and $1,500, but the $10,000 bail was offered earlier this year and requires land documents to meet.
Lamb was provided with full disclosure on the case and at the June 9 date, he will be formally committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
