By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Popular video-sharing app, TikTok is suing the state of Montana following a statewide ban on personal devices, BBC reports.
Last week, Governor Greg Gianforte signed a ban into law, making Montana the first U.S. state to ban TikTok on personal devices. This would become effective on January 1, 2024.
TikTok says that the ban conflicts with US free speech rights.
The popular app has been under increased scrutiny around the world over security concerns.
The company says that it is now suing to overturn the “unlawful” ban.
“We believe our legal challenge will prevail based on an exceedingly strong set of precedents and facts,” the company said.
TikTok is reported to have over 150 million users in the U.S.
