By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belizean centenarian Vilma Gordon Tate, who recently turned 100 years old, celebrated in style with family and friends during a gala held by her family in New York to commemorate the milestone occasion.
Her birthday is on April 25, however, the gala was held on April 29, 2023 in Queens, New York. Her family from Belize, Chicago and Los Angeles traveled to celebrate the milestone with her.
Tate was born in Corozal but grew up in Baking Pot, Cayo District to Mr. and Mrs. Victoria Gordon. She had five children, with one having sadly passed away.
Tate worked at the Cayo hospital for 25 years before migrating to the United States in 1981.
She has been living in New York for the last 42 years but has never given up her beloved Belize, which she visits often. Her last trip home to the Jewel was in 2022, when she spent 6 months.
She has been blessed to be able to meet several of her nine great, great grandchildren.
Aside from occasional pain in her leg, she is in excellent health. She says her doctor has told her that after so many years of walking she is bound to experience some pain.
At 100 years young, Tate is very alert and sharp and can engage in great conversations. She calls her children and grandchildren often to check up on them when she doesn’t hear from them for a couple of days.
She enjoys watching her soap operas and drinks a little from time to time. Breaking Belize News wishes to honor and celebrate the milestone along with Ms. Tate and wish her many many more years to come!
