International News: Student suspected of starting fire that killed 19 in Guyana over ‘confiscated phone’

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Officials in Guyana say that a student who was upset because her phone was confiscated started the deadly fire that killed 19 students.

The victims were reportedly trapped inside as the dorm was locked and the windows covered.

According to the BBC, the teenage suspect has admitted to arson and is being treated for burns.

The fire began in the bathroom area and spread to the entire building early Monday morning.

During the horrific incident, the dorm administrator who lost her five-year-old son in the fire was unable to locate the keys to unlock the door in her state of panic.

Responding firefighters had to break through the walls to help people escape.
