By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Twenty-three Orange Walk farmers took advantage of a Climate Smart Agriculture training workshop conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) in San Carlos in the Orange Walk District on Wednesday.
The training workshop is part of a continuing series being conducted by MAFSE.
The training in climate smart agriculture methods on Wednesday was conducted by Extension Officer Alberto René Gutierrez who has been offering the training to farmers as part of the Resilient School Feeding Program.
On May 11, 16 farmers from the Maskall area benefited from a similar training session.
The training is a follow up to the Belize Resilient School Feeding Program Project, which comes under the sub – project MEXICO-CARICOM-FAO Initiative: – “Cooperation for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience in the Caribbean”. Under this project farmers supplying schools with produce are trained in methods for increasing productivity, enhancing resilience to climate changes, and reducing emissions.
