By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize is exporting 835 head of cattle to SuKarne company in Mexico this week, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
This week’s exports amount to approximately 501,000 pounds of live cattle valued at $1,127,250, said MAFSE’s Principal Agriculture Officer and National Director of Livestock Belarmino Esquivel.
“From Tuesday to Friday a total of 11 truckloads or approximately 835 head of cattle will be exported,” Esquivel said on Wednesday evening.
“To date six truckloads have been successfully exported: three loads on Tuesday and three loads on Wednesday. Pending are two truckloads for Thursday and three loads for Friday.”
The Belize Livestock Producers Association confirmed that 225 livestock were exported on Tuesday and 229 on Wednesday.
Belize exports cattle to Mexico and Guatemala.
Up to last month, Belize had exported approximately 11,000 head of cattle valued at over $14.5 million to both countries, according to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
