Guilty plea for Patrick Harris halts murder trial

By Aaron Humes: An eyewitness account of the shooting death of Dillon Grinage on New Year’s Eve, 2016, prompted the accused shooter, Patrick Harris of Sandhill, to plead guilty to manslaughter on the advice of his attorney.

According to the eyewitness, it was Harris who shot Grinage in Maskall Village at the junction of the Old Northern Highway, hitting him as many as four times. Grinage died while being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The eyewitness testified to having known Harris for more than ten years prior to the shooting incident.

As advised by attorney Oscar Selgado, Harris told the court that he would plead guilty to manslaughter after initially pleading not guilty to a charge of murder.

High Court Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft, hearing the case alone, will sentence Harris on July 3.
