By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize lost their final game in Group A of the U21 Women’s NORCECA Pan American Volleyball Cup to Mexico in straight sets 11-25, 11-25, 15-25 on Friday in Nogales, Mexico.
Fatima Ramirez scored eight points for Belize.
The loss was Belize’s third in an equal number of games. In the initial game on Wednesday, Belize lost to Cuba in straight sets 14-25, 12-25, 18-25. Then on Thursday, our team fell to Puerto Rico 0-3 (12-25, 18-25, 13-25).
Mexico topped the group with three straight victories after previously beating Puerto Rico 3-0 and Cuba 3-1. In the other Group A game today, Cuba beat Puerto Rico 3-1 to finish second with a 2-1 record. Puerto Rico (1-2) placed third, ahead of Belize (0-3).
In Group B, the United States topped the group with a 3-0 after beating Costa Rica 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-9). Costa Rica finished 1-2. The Dominican Republic (2-1) beat Guatemala (0-3) in straight sets (25-8, 25-13, 25-21).
Belize have one more game on Saturday against one of the quarterfinals losers in the Classification 5-8 ranking games. Belize’s game will be at 4:00 pm (5:00 pm Bze Time).
