Orange Walk Running Rebels host San Pedro Tiger Sharks in Orange Walk on Saturday night as BEBL playoffs get underway

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The number one seeded Orange Walk Running Rebels (10-4) host the fourth seeded San Pedro Tiger Sharks (9-5) at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex at 9:00 pm on Saturday night as the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) playoffs get underway.

Running Rebels fans were concerned that James Stanback was gone for good when it was reported earlier in the week that he had had a fallout with team management and was headed back to the United States, but today the Running Rebels promotional flyer on social media is a picture of Stanback.

Expect an explosive series as both teams started with off footing but rectified down the stretch and finished with a winning edge.

The BEBL couldn’t get the other series between number two seeded Benny’s Belize Hurricanes (10-4) and third seeded Griga Dream Ballers (9-5) to start this weekend as the Belize City Civic Center is committed to someone else for the entire weekend. The BEBL even entertained the idea of opening the series in Dangriga and playing the final two games in Belize City, but the Stann Creek team wouldn’t buy that idea and didn’t agree. So, the BEBL said that the series will start on Friday, June 2, at the Belize City Civic Center.

The semifinals will be three-game series with the higher ranked teams having two home games if the series go all the way. The BEBL said on Thursday morning in a social media post that the “updated schedule will be posted shortly …” but two days later nothing has been posted.

The Final series will consist of five games.
