San Pedro Tiger Sharks shock Orange Walk Running Rebels 77-73 in BEBL playoffs

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The San Pedro Tiger Sharks defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels 77-73 at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex at the beginning of the Belize Elite Basketball League playoffs on Saturday night.

The Tiger Sharks were led by Francis Arana 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and five steals. Jihad Wright added 18 points, five boards, two assists, two steals and three blocks. Jamaal Clifton scored ten points, pulled six rebounds, and made one assist and one steal. Kyle Steward pulled 11 rebounds, scored six points, and made three steals.

The Orange Walk Running Rebels were led by Bryan Hudson with 23 points, two rebounds, and one assist. Akeem Trapp scored 13 points to go with two boards, three assists, and two steals. Tyrone Hall tallied 14 points, two rebounds and two assists. James Stanback scored only three points, pulled 8 rebounds, and made two assists and two steals.

The Orange Walk Running Rebels shot 43.5% from the field scoring 30 out of 69 attempts. They scored five out of 15 three-point attempts for 33.3%.

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks only shot 31 out of 81 for 38.3% from the field and from the three-point range they went two out of 13 for 15.4%.

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks made 19 turnovers to 26 by the Orange Walk Running Rebels, who now head to San Pedro to try to even the series.

The San Pedro Tiger Sparks were more consistent and bagged the first game on the road. They now return to finish the series in two. The Rebels will have to bounce back to stretch the series to a third game.
