Verdes are Belize’s football champions!

The Green Machine beat San Pedro Pirates 2-1 in Cayo in 2^nd PLB Final

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes just crowned themselves as Belize’s football champions after beating the San Pedro Pirates 2-1 in the second leg of the 2022-2023 Premier League of Belize Closing Championship Finals at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio. Verdes win the championship on a 3-1 aggregate scored after having won Game 1 by a 1-0 score at San Pedro on Wednesday

Mexican Marco Antonio Zavala scored a header early in the game to put Verdes ahead. San Pedro rallied back, and their top scorer Horace Avila tied the match at 1-1 in the second half giving the islanders hope of at least forcing extra time. However, veteran Jeromy ‘Jaro’ James delivered the insurance goal for Verdes a couple minutes from the end of the second and definitive Final to win 2-1 over the Pirates.

The Green Machine’s Wednesday night’s win in Game 1 at Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro came of a last gasp injury time goal by Mexican Christian Ramirez.

The championship also gave Verdes the Concacaf League ticket over Opening Season Champions Altitude as they tallied more points in the Cumulative Table of Standings for the two regular seasons.
