BREAKING: Several persons of interest named as Mirza Morales murder investigation gets underway

By Aaron Humes, Belmopan : Police say they are looking at several persons of interest in connection with the murder of Mirza Morales at her restaurant in El Progreso, Cayo District.

The victim, police confirmed today, had a past, with links to the previous murder victims Mario Graniel of San Pedro Town and Dr Gary Swank, a tourist and visiting cardiologist from Virginia, USA.

Graniel and Dr Swank were killed in June of 2019, shot from a passing boat while on a fly fishing trip northwest of Ambergris Caye. Subsequently the main suspect in that case was reported dead in Guatemala.

Morales was said to have owned properties in the Turneffe area and Cayo District but there was no attempt at robbery by the armed gunman, and she was the only person targeted.

Police investigations continue and we will have more on this later on.
