International News: South American leaders gather for regional summit

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Tuesday, Presidents of the countries in South America will gather in Brazil for the first regional summit in 9 years.

According to the Associated Press, the summit is part of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s attempt to reinvigorate regional integration efforts.

Experts say that Lula is hoping to view leaders willingness to cooperate through a revived Union of South American Nations, or Unasur.

UNASUR was established 15 years ago with the plan to integrate the 12 South American nations culturally, socially, politically and economically.
