International News: Taiwan’s Defence Ministry says Chinese warships passed through Taiwan Strait

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday, the Taiwan Defence Ministry said that it detected 3 Chinese warships passing through the Taiwan Strait.

The Associated Press reports that Taiwanese officials were monitoring the movement of the ships.

In recent months, China has ramped up military drills near Taiwan amidst heightened tensions.

China views Taiwan as its territory and has long vowed to “reunify” the self-governing democratic island.

In addition, Taiwan’s Defence Ministry said that between Friday and Saturday, 33 of China’s People’s Liberation Army aircraft and 10 navy vessels were detected around Taiwan.

In response, Taiwan’s armed forces deployed aircraft and navy vessels.
