Belize Weather: Hottest day of the year so far, but watch out for intense storms inland

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Skies will be mostly sunny today and partly cloudy tonight according to the National Meteorological Service, as temperatures are expected to reach their highest highs of the year so far. Isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms can be expected mainly over inland areas this afternoon and tonight, which can become very strong at times.

High temperatures peak at 90 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; 100 degrees Fahrenheit in inland areas and 87 degrees in the hills. Tonight, temperatures fall to 80 degrees along the coast, 73 degrees inland and 68 degrees in the hills. A heat alert is in effect; stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activity this afternoon across the interior.

Winds are easterly to southeasterly at five to 15 knots; sea state is slight.

Tides are high as of 6:48 this morning; a low tide occurs at 2 p.m. this afternoon followed by a high tide at 8:04 this evening. The sun sets at 6:23 this evening and rises at 5:17 Thursday morning.

Similar weather conditions continue through Thursday.
