Pound Yard teen fight: Delay in charges to be levied against 15-year-old

By Aaron Humes: A 15-year-old boy is potentially facing attempted murder charges following a stabbing on Saturday night in Belize City. It happened near the Pound Yard Bridge around 8:30 pm.

There was no one was killed – but three teenagers were involved, one of whom called the other “cuñiado” – meaning brother-in-law – which sparked the fight.

The fight that ensued sent Jayden Tucker to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, initially in critical condition, but according to attorney Norman Rodriguez, possible exculpatory evidence suggests a different version of events that took place.

But as of Wednesday, the accused had not yet been charged, and that worried Rodriguez, who told Channel 7 News: “It’s very sad because we’re dealing with a very young person here and the kind of investigation that is going on, if you’re dealing with a 14-year-old, even the laws dictate that you wouldn’t handle that person the way you’d handle a normal, hardened criminal or somebody who goes before the court often to it is a shame that better investigation has not been done especially if you have eyewitnesses who the police have the authority to interview and get the truth as to what happened. In addition, there is allegedly video footage that can be obtained by the police, so it is poor investigation…”

Police said the arraignment would take place in the Family Court.
