Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman is Sandra Garrett!

Today’s feature is on Stann Creek resident, Sandra Garrett.

Garrett found healing through helping others who are going through similar grief of losing a loved one to cancer.

Sandra Garrett was born in Stann Creek and has worked tirelessly to serve her community.

She served as an officer in the Dangriga Cancer Society for 16 years, an officer of the Diabetes Association, and is a current member of HTA Bowman Help Age Dangriga.

Sandra worked 13 years as the manager of Stanley’s Pharmacy and managed Rio Mar Hotel, working closely with the Belize Tourism Board.

After her husband of 25 years passed away from pancreatic cancer, Sandra was moved to help others in hospice care and their families going through the same grief.

In 2012, Sandra and Dr Lisa Jordan created the Stann Creek palliative care branch of the Belize Palliative Care Foundation, dedicated to the idea of “Love your neighbor.”

Sandra and several retired nurses and other volunteers do weekly visits to the senior shut-ins and home-bound patients in hospice care.

They share donated supplies, groceries, and medical necessities such as bandages, chucks, and more with those who cannot afford them.

They counsel the patients and families going through the most difficult time in their lives; share spiritual comfort, often singing gospel songs with them to lift their spirits; and offer an understanding ear to listen.

Volunteers include Sandra Garrett, President; Shirley Stone, RN; Greta Lewis, RN retired; Jean Ewing, RN retired; Carla Bradley, N retired; Anna Enriquez; Barbara Bradley; Julie Groff; and Pat Evans.

Sandra also thanks Kids One Connect, one of their biggest donators for medical supplies and specialist care.
