By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a learning experience at the U21 Women’s NORCECA Pan American Cup in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, Team Belize is back home. The team may have finished eighth of eight, but they put up a good fight in each of their games against powerhouse teams from the region.
In the end, the United States won the tournament beating hosts Mexico 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-21) on Sunday night in the Final. This was the third title for the Americans who had won the previous one.
Cuba picked up the bronze medal beating the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 14-25, 26-24).
Puerto Rico finished in fifth place after winning over Costa Rica 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21).
Guatemala beat Belize 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-22) and finished in seventh position.
Meanwhile the Belize Volleyball Association Belize keeps preparing to host two international tournaments later this year. The BVA will host the Under-19 Women’s Central American Championship from July 14-23 and the Men’s Central American Championship from August 4-13 at the Belize City Civic Center.
