By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future (BFSF) is calling on Belizean to celebrate World Reef Day with them.
World Reef Awareness Day is on June 1 is a day to to create awareness about the coral reefs’ fragile eco-systems.
“We’re shining a spotlight on Belize’s vibrant reef that is home to our marine life,” the BFSF said.
The BFSF said that through their Grants Award Program (GAP)’s 2022-2023 cycle, they approved three projects that support our Barrier Reef system:
“Wildtracks is helping to support secure the future of Belize’s iconic manatees,” the BFSF said.
“Environmental Research Institute (University of Belize) is assessing the population structure of fished marine species within Belize.
“@FragmentsofHopeBelize is continuing to actively restore critically endangered coral species, particularly acroporids.”
The BFSF highlighted the fact that coral reefs represent less than 1% of the ocean but 25% of all marine species.l live in them.
The BFSF is working on making the world know how importance coral reef conservation is and is asking people to pledge to protect the underwater wonders for future generations.
