Lionel Messi … ‘the best player in the history of football’: PSG Coach Christophe Galtier

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Coach Christophe Galtier recognized Lionel Messi as the ‘the best player in the history of football’ just days after PSG forward Kylian Mbappe was named the Ligue 1’s Best Player this season.

Galtier made the comment when he said Paris St Germain’s home game against Clermont on Saturday will be Messi’s ‘last match at the Parc des Princes’.

“I had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes,” Galtier said at a press conference on Thursday.

“This year, he has been an important part of the team, always available. I don’t think any of the comments or criticisms are justified.

“He’s always been there for the team. It’s been a great privilege to accompany him throughout the season.”

A PSG source told Reuters that it will be Messi ‘last game this season’ but not necessarily his last game with PSG. However, French newspaper Le Parisien said the relationship “between Lionel Messi and Paris, it’s well and truly over”.

Messi, who last year won the World Cup in Qatar has also won the Ballon d’Or award a record seven times. With Barcelona he captured 17 league titles and in France he won the Ligue 1 in his two consecutive seasons there.

Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal are said to have offered Messi $1 billion for two seasons. He reportedly also had an offer from Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, while his old team Barcelona are hot to get him back but money problems and La Liga rules seem to make that move impossible.
