Ministry of Health and Wellness hosts Basic Emergency Care course

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) hosted a 4-day training course in Basic Emergency Care (BEC) in Belize City.

The course began on May 29, 2023 and concluded on June 1, 2023.

The objective of the training was to enhance the skills and response capacity of frontline healthcare workers to appropriately triage, stabilize and transfer patients who may present with possible life-threatening illness or injury.

This training course served as a direct link to improve on patient outcomes.

Facilitators included both local and International Medical Officers lead by partners from Baylor College.

Participants included healthcare workers from Central Health Region, the Belize Defence Force and from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority.
