By Aaron Humes: The Empowered Business Loans program of the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has been regionally recognized for its contributions to supporting women and young entrepreneurs.
On Thursday, the EBL program was awarded the Latin American Association of Development Finance Institutions (ALIDE) Award 2023 at its annual general assembly in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. DFC is being represented at the meeting by its Chief Executive Officer, Henry N. Anderson, and Chief Lending Officer, Shanelle Reneau.
The ALIDE Award recognizes best practices in development financial institutions and in this case specifically “Support for Women Entrepreneurs” in recognition of its contribution to supporting women and young people to access financing and financial assistance, and, at the same time, with the provision of free evaluation of commercial and property projects.
Accepting the award, Reneau stated, “One of the main facets of the product was to provide more flexible terms and conditions, with a special emphasis on the reduction of the requirement for real estate collateral.” She added that the program has reduced gender gaps in micro/small/medium enterprise (MSME) ownership and contributed to the reduction of crime, violence, and poverty by getting more women and youth involved in business and entrepreneurship.
