By Breaking Belize News Staff: Tropical Storm Arlene, the first named storm of this year’s hurricane season, is forecast to lose strength and downgrade to a tropical depression later today, according to the National Hurricane Centre’s 4 AM update.
Arlene, currently stirring near latitude 24.5 North, longitude 85.5 West, is moving toward the south-southeast at around 9 mph (15 km/h). Over the next day, the storm is predicted to gradually shift its trajectory towards the southeast.
Presently, the storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 km/h), with gusts exceeding this. However, as Arlene’s energy wanes, it is projected to further deteriorate into a remnant low by late tonight and is expected to fully dissipate by Sunday.
This forecast comes as a relief for the regions bracing for potential impact, but authorities recommend residents continue to monitor updates as the storm continues its course. While Arlene’s downgrading signifies a less severe threat, it serves as a reminder of the approaching hurricane season and the importance of being prepared for more significant storms that could emerge.
