By Aaron Humes: Moments after their arrival home on Saturday night, a father and his son were under gunfire that ultimately killed the father and injured the son.
Police say 36-year-old Kurtis Usher and his son, three, were on their veranda at their home in the village of Libertad, Corozal District, when they heard noises nearby in the bushes and then gunfire. One person dressed in full black was seen firing at Usher, who ran behind his house but was caught and died there. His son was grazed by a bullet to the left side of the head and was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital for treatment and discharged to recover from his wound.
Police say they have recovered the suspected murder weapon, a nine-millimeter Smith and Wesson pistol with magazine containing seven nine-millimeter rounds, as well as twenty-one expended 7.62 shells and two live nine-millimeter rounds. Their investigations continue.
