Reverend Father Noel Leslie marks 41st year of priesthood

By Aaron Humes: Cleric Reverend Father Noel Leslie has been a constant presence in the Roman Catholic Diocese in Belize since he was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1982, by Bishop Robert Hodapp.

To the wider population, he may be best known as the first Senate representative for the Churches and teacher at San Ignacio’s Sacred Heart College and Belize City’s Pallotti High School.

But he has been active in church leadership, starting at St Joseph Parish and as an administrator at Our Lady of the Way, Ladyville, from 1982 to 1987, moving on to San Ignacio from 1987 to 1994, then Dangriga in 1995 and 1996, back to Belize City and St Ignatius Parish between 1996 and 2007 before becoming rector of the mother church, Holy Redeemer Cathedral, from 2007 to 2010. He has come full circle, returning to St Joseph’s in 2010.

Lesser-known facts about Father Leslie include: he is a lover of history and also plays the organ. He also had a beloved dog Rover who lived with him in the three assignments in Belize City until his passing.
