Brooklyn Lyttle wins 4 gold medals, sets new Central American record in long jump at CADICA U18-U20 Athletics Championships in Guatemala

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brooklyn Lyttle was Belize’s star at the Central American (CADICA) U18-U20 Athletics Championships in Guatemala winning four gold medals and setting a new Central American record in long jump.

Participating in the Under Championships at the Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City, Guatemala over the weekend, Lyttle stole the show winning four of Belize’s seven gold medals in the Women’s U18 100m, long jump, triple jump, and the 4x100m relay.

Lyttle won the long jump setting a new Central American record measuring 5.82 meters. The previous record was held by Nathalee Joane of Panama who jumped 5.72m in 2011.

Lytle beat Guatemalan’s Annika Spross who jumped 5.49m to take silver. Another Guatemalan, Karen Rocio Lopez (5:02m) was third.

Lyttle also captured gold in the triple jump in 11.31m over Spross (11.26m) and López (10.87m).

She captured her third gold in the 100m in 12.58 seconds ahead of Costa Rican Shannell Perkins who clocked 12.95. Panama’s Ayhan Melis was third in 12.96. Belize’s Nyasha Harris was fifth in 13.04.

She got her fourth gold anchoring Belize’s Women’s U18 4x100m relay that claimed gold in 49.30 seconds. Panama was second in 49.94 and Costa Rica was third in 49.98. Belize’s gold medal team comprises Samya Lamb, Tridean Martinez, Lyttle, and Nyasha Harris.

Those four gold medals, one which she shared with Women’s U18 4x100m relay, made Belize claim third place in the Women’s U18 with four gold medals.
