International News: Russia bans journalists from ‘unfriendly countries’ at showpiece economic gathering

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday, Russia announced that journalists from countries that Russia considers “unfriendly” have been banned from covering this year’s economic forum in St. Petersburg, one of the country’s showpiece events.

According to the Associated Press, the decision increases tensions between Russia and countries that imposed sanctions connected to the war in Ukraine.

The June 14-17 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has for decades been Russia’s vehicle for touting its development and seeking investors.

Those countries include the United States, Canada, European Union members and Australia.
