International Organization for Migration and Cayo Development Co. Ltd. sign agreement for construction of 2 new hurricane shelters in Cayo

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 26, 2023, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Cayo Development Co. Ltd. signed an agreement for Phase 2 of the EU-funded Lives in Dignity Grant “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration of Displaced People in Settlements of Western Belize” Project.

The project is administered through United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and implemented by IOM in partnership with the Ministry of Sustainable Dev. Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management.

Deliverables under this project will be the construction of 2 new hurricane shelters for Santa Familia and Duck Run 3 respectively.

These shelters will serve 75 families in their respective communities and are expected to be completed by end of 2023.
