Women, a fundamental pillar in Santander Sugar Group

a fundamental pillar in Santander Sugar Group

Posted: Monday, June 5, 2023. 9:45 am CST.

Contributed: Santander Sugar Group is a company committed to the inclusion of women in the world of work, and to compliance with the right to gender equality in labor matters. Santander Sugar has broken the rules and allows women to venture into jobs previously considered exclusively for men.

Currently the company offers work to about 60 women of different ages and different levels of education. “We have engineers, managers, accountants, secretaries, paramedics, administrative assistants, welders, supervisors, cleaners, field workers, etc. Women are present in all areas of the company, and they play a fundamental role within our company, since they carry out their work responsibly, are attentive, communicative, thoughtful and perfectionist in their work,” says Ms. Azahara Álvarez, manager Santander Human Resources.

“We are very proud of all our women at Santander Sugar, great fighters, many of them single mothers who raise their families alone or who endure difficult existential situations, we want to thank all of them and praise their magnificent qualities.”

“Sometimes we are not aware of the importance that women have in society, the different roles they play as mother, wife, housewife, worker, educator, caregiver for parents and other relatives, etc. To begin with (but not only exclusively), the woman conditions her existence and her physique to give birth to new life, raise children and run the home, providing care and affection for the family. Many times due to this great responsibility with the children and the home, they must sacrifice their education, their professional career or their personal desires in favor of the family. Today, many others are added to these great family responsibilities, because today and thanks to the access of girls and women to education first, and then to work, they can become more independent people, and even take their in front of their family themselves, without the need to be subject to situations that they do not want”. Affirms Ms. Alvarez.

“At Santander Sugar we are aware of the value of women in the business world, so much so that today of a total of 12 people who are part of the Company’s General Management, 5 of them are women and 7 men, that represents 42%; they are taken into account for making important decisions, as capable people within a high-level work team, which works hand in hand with the company’s Management.

“Increasingly, we are more aware that women have great value as human beings and that they deserve respect and admiration, but there is still much to be done both in companies and by Belizean society. It is not at all about detracting from the role of men, but about working together to achieve a better society, and in that women have a lot to contribute.”

“For this reason, at Santander Sugar Group we are committed to adding new women each year to our workforce, as well as developing policies for equality and the defense of women’s rights.” Ms. Alvarez concluded.
