Family feud between brother, sister, and girlfriend ends up in court

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man on Monday pleaded not guilty to common assault of his sister for blows to her face during a domestic dispute.

27-year-old Juan Gomez was charged after allegedly coming home under alcoholic influence and getting into an argument with his girlfriend, forcing his sister Bernarda Rivera to intervene.

When she told them to stop making noise and further allegedly threatened to take the motorcycle she had lent to Gomez, that started a new round of arguments and then blows from Gomez to Rivera.

Gomez pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Khiana Gordon and was offered bail of $1,000. The case was adjourned for August 15.

The siblings are to be kept apart by order of the court, including through social media.
