Insurance legend Harrison Pilgrim dies following traffic accident in Guatemala

By Aaron Humes: Insurance pioneer G.A. Harrison “Harry” Pilgrim has died, reportedly after being involved in a road traffic accident in Guatemala last week.

Pilgrim devoted his life to the insurance industry in Belize and the Caribbean, serving as a former Regional Manager for Sagicor Capital Life’s operation in Belize before his retirement in 2012, but started a family-owned firm Diversified Life Solutions Brokers Limited which focuses on employee benefits – life, health and pension insurance – as well as property and motor insurance placements.

Pilgrim can rightly be called a legend, having been inducted into the regional insurance adviser association CARAIFA’s Hall of Fame in 2015. He has been a leader in the national insurance industry and founded and twice led the Belize Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (BELAIFA).

More recently he was also chairman of the University of Belize Board of Trustees, a supporter of athletics in Belize (he had been on his way to meet the victorious CADICA team participating in regional games last week), and a supporter of the United Democratic Party (UDP) – area representative Tracey Taegar-Panton, in whose constituency his business is located, remembered him as a “man among men” among other things.

He is survived by his family and numerous friends and admirers in the industry.
