International News: Torrential rains, flooding and landslide in Haiti leave 42 people dead, thousands displaced

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Monday, Haitian officials said that 42 people lost their lives and 11 more remained missing after a weekend of torrential rains.

According to the Associated French Press, the rains affected 37,000 people and displaced 13,400.

Mayor of Leogane said that residents are desperate after having lost everything.

Mayor Ernson Henry says that families are in dire need of drinking water, food and medicine.

The floods destroyed hundreds of homes and damaged several roads.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry activated the National Emergency Operation Center in response.
