By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News confirmed this evening with senior Government officials that Jasmine Hartin has been held up at Belize’s northern border with Mexico attempting to cross this afternoon.

We understand that the 33-year-old, sentenced to pay a fine of $75,000 and serve 300 hours of community service, had obtained a temporary travel document issued by a Canadian consulate (she is a native of Canada). She was unable to present proof of payment of the fine that her Canadian counsel and others said in a statement at the weekend had in fact been paid in full. She also has been unable to regain her passport that was confiscated from the time she was arrested two years ago in the manslaughter death of the late Henry Jemmott in Ambergris Caye.

It was not clear where Hartin may have been headed, but we are told the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams was informed and intervened to stop her departure.

Hartin has one year to pay the fine and perform the remainder of her court-ordered sentence, in default a year’s imprisonment.
