Lottery licensing shake-up: Fantasy 5 and Pick 3 join Boledo and Sunday Lottery in license non-renewal

Posted: Tuesday, June 6, 2023. 4:57 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: As went Boledo and the Sunday Lottery Draw, so too go Fantasy 5 and Pick 3.

But while the former appear to be making a comeback, licenses for these games will not be renewed by the Lotteries Committee for similar reasons – “non-compliance with the licensing requirements and conditions”.

The Lotteries Committee at its last meeting decided not to renew the license for Caribbean Gaming Company Limited, the proprietors of Fantasy 5, which expired on May 31. The final draw for this lottery will take place on Thursday, June 8. Similarly, the license for 369 Gaming Company Limited, the owners of Pick 3, expired on March 31, and their operations must cease by June 8.

In notices issued by the Ministry of Investment and the Lotteries Committee, establishments have been warned that selling illegal lottery tickets is a criminal offense. Any establishment found selling Fantasy 5 or Pick 3 tickets after the specified dates will face fines.

Additionally, the Ministry of Investment has informed other license holders that they must comply with all licensing requirements and conditions to be considered for license renewal.

With modifications to the Lotteries Control Act, the Boledo and Sunday Lottery franchises are anticipated to be managed by the Belize Government Lotteries Limited (BGLL), which will soon be statutorily established. In light of this change, former franchise owners, Brads Gaming Group Limited (BGGL), are seeking compensation for the removal of their license.
