Nicaraguan national charged with assault on off-duty police officer after nightclub dispute

Posted: Tuesday, June 6, 2023. 5:28 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: One Snider Perez of Locke Alley, Belize City, is accused of putting his hands on a police officer at his own home following an earlier confrontation at a nightclub.

Perez, originally from Nicaragua, was charged with common assault of police officer Arnaldo Ical at his residence on June 4, when around 4:30 p.m. he allegedly went to the officer’s apartment and began pushing him around, asking why he wouldn’t accept him in the club earlier that day.

Ical reportedly responded that he, Perez, “was a bad man.”

Ical subsequently reported the matter and in court Perez attempted to plead guilty, saying he did in fact speak to Ical, but denied touching him. The Magistrate insisted that Perez agree to all the facts and so he pleaded not guilty.

Perez was offered bail of $1,000, but he is not to interfere with Ical, his family, or other prosecution witnesses either physically or through social media. The case returns to court on August 1.
