Jasmine Hartin has officially paid $75,000 court fine; will attempt again to leave Belize

Posted: Wednesday, June 7, 2023. 1:49 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: After claiming to have done so at the end of last week, there has been exhibited an official Government receipt by Channel 7 News confirming that the $75,000 fine due to the High Court by Jasmine Hartin, 33, has been paid in full as of this morning, a week to the day that she was ordered to do so by High Court Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft.

On Tuesday, Hartin, convicted of manslaughter by negligence in the death of Henry Jemmott two years ago, was held up at the Northern Border attempting to cross without confirmation of the fine being paid, on the strength of a letter from the Canadian consulate here.

While there is some argument that she did not need the receipt in order to travel given that she has a full year to pay the fine and no other restrictions beyond completing the other terms of her court order, having the receipt makes assurance doubly sure and ensures there is no trouble with police or other agencies

Comment is being sought from Commissioner of Police Chester Williams and we continue to await developments.
