By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Commander of Community policing, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Howell Gillett and the Ministry of Education participated in the graduation ceremonies for 299 primary school students that were engaged in the Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) program.
The students are from Howard Smith Nazarene, Immaculada RC, Hills of Promise and Mount Carmel.
Gillett was joined by Officer Commanding Benque Viejo Police, Assistant Superintendent Jesus Palma and Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams.
“As law enforcement, it gives us immense pride and admiration for each and every graduate. This is a momentous occasion, a milestone in the lives of every student who graduated today. We are hopeful that hard work, dedication, and commitment to a brighter future, free from the influence of gangs and violence will be part of their future,” Gillett said.
“Throughout the program, each student embarked on a remarkable journey of self-discovery, resilience, and personal growth. They have learned essential life skills, built strong foundations of character, and gained invaluable knowledge about making wise choices. Each participant developed the tools necessary to resist the temptations that may arise and to stay on the path of positivity and success,” he added.
Gillett encouraged students to surround themselves with positive influences, seek opportunities to grow, and never be afraid to dream big.
“Lastly, let me express my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduating class of the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program. You have shown us what true resilience looks like, and I have no doubt that you will make a significant difference in your communities and beyond. Always remember that you have the power to break cycles, change lives, and make this world a better place,” Gillett expressed.
