Verdes to play Costa Rica’s Alajuelense, Honduras’ Motagua in CONCACAF Central American Cup

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes will be playing two Central American powerhouses in the CONCACAF Central American Cup. The virtual draw on Thursday has pitted Belizean champions Verdes against Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and Honduras’ Motagua in Group D.

Verdes will also play against Honduran club Olancho Fc and Panamanian club Sporting San Miguelito.

Verdes should start with two home games against the strongest teams. The Green Machine are to face Motagua on August 1-3, and Liga Deportiva Alajuelense on August 8-10.

The last two games will be on the road. In the third game, Verdes will travel to Panama to face San Miguelito in Panama on August 15-17 and will close in Honduras against Olancho on August 22-24.

These are the four groups:

Group A: Saprissa, Cobán Imperial, Cartaginés, CD Universitario, and Jocoro

Group B: Olimpia, Xelajú, CAI Panama, FAS, Real Estelí

Group C: Comunicaciones, Herediano, Real España, Aguila, Diriangén

Group D: Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, Motagua, Olancho, Sporting San Miguelito, Verdes

The group stage runs from August 1-31, the quarterfinals will be held at the end of September, the semifinals and the play-in in October and the finals in November and December. The tournament should be over at the latest by December 7.

HONDURAS: Olimpia, Real España, Motagua, Olancho FC

NICARAGUA: Real Estelí, Diriangén

PANAMA: Club Atlético Independiente – CAI, Sporting San Miguelito, Club Deportivo Universitario
