By Aaron Humes: It was not pretty, but the Denver Nuggets proved it didn’t have to be, as key secondary players stepped up to stop the Miami Heat 108-95 for a 3-1 NBA Finals series lead.
The Heat kept things close early as star center Nikola Jokic encountered foul trouble, but it seemed every time Miami got close, the Nuggets found another bucket from Aaron Gordon or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Bruce Brown or Christian Braun to hold the lead.
The Nuggets finally began to pull away at the start of the third quarter and with Jokic on the bench early in the fourth, the Heat got no closer than six before their own streaky shooting and Denver’s timing let another chance slip away.
The Western Conference champions will aim to close out the series on Monday night in Game Five.
