By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning for Americans planning to travel to the Dominican Republic.
The U.S. State Department advised travelers to exercise increased caution due to crime and safety concerns.
According to Travel + Leisure, the Dominican Republic was placed under a Level 2 warning due to “Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide and sexual assault”.
“The wide availability of weapons, the use and trade of illicit drugs, and a weak criminal justice system contribute to the high level of criminality on the broader scale,” the advisory noted.
Recently, the State Department also issued advisories for several popular vacation destinations, including certain areas of Mexico, Colombia, and Jamaica.
